Don’t despair! Just because you're not invited yet doesn't necessarily mean that you won't be able to audition. Once a SmartCast project is posted on Voice123, SmartCast finds all premium subscribers that match the project specifications. It starts inviting them from best matching to least matching until the desired number of submissions is reached or all invitations have been sent. The client can increase the number of auditions requested and has the option to close the project at any time.
If every voice actor was invited right away to every project then the auditioning process would become a cattle call. SmartCast was carefully designed to distribute auditioning opportunities fairly among all of our Premium Subscribers. Voice actors that are deemed more likely to be hired for the project, based on the information they have provided in their profiles, rankings, and other factors, are invited earlier than those who don't match as well.
The goal of the Voice123 platform is to get voice actors hired! We do this by providing a smaller, more focused pool of voice actors for a client to listen to, resulting in a better selection for clients, and a better chance of getting heard (and ultimately hired) for voice actors. To this end, 1% of voice actors that match a project's parameters are not invited to audition.
SmartCast works best when voice actors are selective. What do we mean when we say “selective?” Selective means submitting for projects that are a good match for your signature sound. This means not submitting for projects where you will be competing with native speakers of an accent you don't have. (ie North Americans submitting for a project requesting British English). This also means that if your signature sound is a twenty-something hipster, you may not want to submit for something that is asking for a senior corporate executive. You want to stick to what you're good at, and what you really think you can book.
